‘More For Life’ values all lives: Thomas More students organize charity event for local animal shelter
Thomas More Mechelen organizes an event to support Dierenbescherming Mechelen vzw (Animal Protection Services Mechelen) an organization that shelters animals who are harmed, abandoned or confiscated. This Thursday, December 19th, More for Life will take place as part of the yearly charity event Music For Life, The Warmest Week (De Warmste Week). The event will be held in the Mediacafé at Campus De Ham from 12 AM until 10 PM.
The Warmest Week is a yearly initiative of the Belgian radio station Studio Brussel since 2013, now Thomas More Mechelen is following. Eight students with different study fields in media will organize this year’s More For Life. The media students will organize certain activities and take over the school’s radio, 21bis, in a marathon from 12 AM until 10 PM that day. People can request any song they like on our website.
Activities
An event wouldn’t be fun without any cool activities. Attendees can expect things such as a tombola and karaoke. ‘You will definitely miss something if you decide not to join,’ says co-organizer Keanu Pinson enthusiastically. ‘Thirsty or hungry? No worries, drinks, and food will be available for everyone. There will even be a jenever bar.’

Besides that, the audience will be able to enjoy live performances as well. The line-up consists of Manuals (MNM start-to-DJ contest winner of 2019), Natascha van Es (Belgium’s Got Talent winner 2018), Marie Van Uytvanck (also known as Kid With Bun), Amber Piddington, and Endeavour Acoustic. Thomas and The Mores (a band formed by the school’s teachers) is one of the headliners of the event.
A great cause
This isn’t the first time Thomas More organizes an event for The Warmest Week. For several years now, the media students of Thomas More have been organizing 21bis For Life, the event named after their own media platform. A few years ago, the name changed to More For Life. In 2018 they raised 2,892 euros for ‘VZW Prinses Harte’.
This year, the organization team decided to go for another cause. ‘The past years, we’ve always done More For Life for causes that concerned people or different illnesses. This year we wanted to focus on animal welfare because it’s just as important but such a different perspective than previous years,’ says Faber Verbist, one of the student coordinators of the event.
‘There is no reason not to come. It’s an event organized by media students for a really great cause. It lasts all day, so if people have time between classes, they can stop by to check it out,’ concludes Journalism student Keith Flameygh.
