Due to most travel restrictions being lifted, the number of international students in Belgium has grown. These students of course all need housing. They are having difficulties finding student rooms near their campuses, or in Flanders in general.
The new academic year has started, that also goes for the international students. These usually only stay in Belgium for one semester. In Flanders there’s no abundance of student rooms for the moment, and landlords don’t like concluding a contract for such a short period of time. Universities and colleges are aware of this problem; Els Vermeulen from Student Services Thomas More Mechelen explaines it in this video report:
