November is Native American Heritage Month: virtual field trip honours Indigenous Americans
In the United States, November is considered Native American Heritage Month, which celebrates the culture of the American Indians. National Geographic invites anyone to join a virtual field trip through personal stories, starting on November 15th.
During a 35-minute program, National Geographic members guide you through the remains of native culture in New Mexico, Montana and Ontario in Canada.
Field trip projects
The storytellers give an introduction to their projects, which are based on their own experiences or the interest in portraying stories through journalism or artwork. The issues indigenous people face, such as cultural appropriation, are an important topic of the event as well. Artist Tehatsistahawi or ‘Tsista’ Kennedy brings his insight to the field trip.
The virtual meeting gives viewers the chance to ask their pressing questions during a Q&A session.
More information about the event can be found on the website.
